Artificial Intelligence 1967; AI 2026; How we got Here, Where are we Going? Will the AI multiply value or multiply dysfunction

by Jeffry Brown | at Minnebar20

Remember '2001 a Space Odyssey'? An AI based movie from 1967, was AI then what AI is today? Where is AI going?

Question 1- The "AI ROI Paradox," a 2025–2026 phenomenon where high investment and widespread adoption (copilots, chatbots) have yet to deliver transformative financial results. While 90% of organizations report some value from AI, only a small minority—roughly 5% to 10%—are seeing significant, measurable, bottom-line ROI. The heavy silence in your boardroom stems from a gap between hype and operational maturity. If the AI multiplies value or multiplies dysfunction is based on what you do before you deploy it. The organizations that will capture the transformational productivity gains from AI over the next decade are not the ones who deploy fastest. They are the ones who build the container that manages it first. The sequence is not complicated, but it is counterintuitive in an environment where the pressure is to show AI ROI to the investors/board before the next quarter ends. I'll present what you must do first to accomplish an AI ROI.

Question 2 - Could AI pose an existential risk by surpassing human intelligence, leading to an "obsolescence regime" where humanity cannot compete, or just not understanding how to deal with human emotions!? AI only relies on the past, it has no knowledge of the future, but can it create it? AI offers significant benefits, yet experts emphasize the need for managing risks regarding ethical considerations, such as AI bias in decision-making and ensuring privacy.

Risk or Benefits or Both? You be the Judge - What would open AI say? It's worth a discussion!
